Fevers And Mirrors

Christmas is over, but I sometimes still feel like red and gold. So welcome with me Pahlish's Fever And Mirrors.

Fevers And Mirrors is a "Deep, shimmering wine-red jelly with a mix of metallic and holographic gold glitters including gold circles."
(Source: Pahlish)

The jelly base is pretty sheer, I used three coats but a fourth wouldn't have hurt. I had no issues with application or getting the glitters out of the bottle. The "black" flakies you see in my pictures are in fact not black but gold, and give the polish a really sparkly, shimmering look. The surface of Fever And Mirrors isn't too gritty, one coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top provided a glossy finish (Fever And Mirrors dries rather matte).

Pahlish polishes are available on Bigcartel , at Overall Beauty and at Llarowe.

Golden Oldie Thursday - Day 4 - Dots

The next theme in the Golden Oldie Thursday Challenge is dots.

As base color I used OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvellous (Swiss Collection), a pewter colored foil polish. Interestingly enough, this polish was released right about the time I moved into the town it's named after, beautiful Lucerne :-)

Lucerne-tainly Look Marvellous is a little sheerer than I expected, opacity was OK after three coats, but a fourth one wouldn't have hurt.

Then I used Essence stamping polishes in silver and black plus dotting tools in three different sizes to add the dots, alternating the colors, starting in the lower right corner and taking a smaller dotting tool after every other dot.

I'm not really used to work with dotting tools yet, so my dots aren't really round. Do you have any tips to get them more even? Should I use more polish?

As always, the other participant's manis below.

Buchrezension "Selbstbewusstsein in 10 Schritten"

Today's post is a review of a german book. For those of you who don't speak german (or are not interested in books), don't worry, I'll be back tomorrow with more nail polish :-)

 Selbstbewusstsein in 10 Schritten

  • Verlag: Madame Missou eBooks & Ratgeber; Auflage: 1.0 (30. September 2013)

A Box, Indied - Dropping Balls

The last polish of the january "A Box, Indied" is Wicked Polish Dropping Balls.

Dropping Balls is a royal blue jelly with medium light blue circles, big blue holographic circles, blue and aqua hexes and dots, small blue holograhpic glitters and blue stars. I used two coats for opacity, plus one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food and one coat or Rica Glossy Glam for a smooth(er) and glossy finish.

I'm somewhat torn regarding this polish. On one hand, there's the look, obviously. It's gorgeous, blue, glittery, just absolutely my cup of tea. But not even a polish can live of looks alone. The downside is the formula/application. Dropping Balls is very thick, stringy, lumpy, which makes it very hard to apply evenly. Thin coats are almost impossible (that's why my middle finger looks like I was wearing badly done gel nails). While I love looking at Dropping Balls, I probably won't wear it a second time, application is too bad to be fun.

Wicked Polish are available at thier own shop and at Harlow & Co.  Dropping Balls is exclusive to the january "A Box, Indied". The box with five polishes is available at Llarowe as a one month only box or as subscription (50$ per box).

A Box, Indied - Frozen Fairy Floss

Polish number four of the january "A Box, Indied" is Different Dimension Frozen Fairy Floss.

As base color I used Essence My Little Kimono (Cherry Blossom Girl Limited Edition), a shimmery medium taupe. I used two coats for opacity and had no issues with application.

Then I added one dabbed coat of Different Dimension Frozen Fairy Floss. Frozen Fairy Floss has a clear base with white hexes in two sizes, small iridescent hexes, white, silver holographic and pastel pink circles and snowflakes, small silver holographic squares and big silver and pink holographic circles (aka "saucers") plus holographic and iridescent microglitter.

Frozen Fairy Floss contains similar glitter as Ice Queen from the december box, so I expected Frozen Fairy Floss to be similarly difficult to apply, but I was positively surprised to find it much easier in use. Of course the snow flakes and saucers didn't just jump out of the bottle, but a little swirling the brush around was enough to get them out, and all the glitters stayed where I placed them.

Due to the big glitters I added one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food and one coat of Rica Glossy Glam topcoat.

Different Dimension polishes can be found on Etsy, at Mei Mei's Signatures or at Llarowe. Frozen Fairy Floss is exclusive to thejanuary "A Box, Indied". The box with five polishes is available at Llarowe as a one month only box or as subscription (50$ per box).

A Box, Indied - Auld Lang Syne

The next polish of the january "A Box, Indied" is Dollish Polish Auld Lang Syne.

Auld Lang Syne is a yellow-ish gold scattered holo with golden microglitter (the glitter particles are a little bigger than the holo particles). Application was easy, I used three coats for opacity.

On my ring finger Iused three coats of Colors By Llarowe Gizmo, a forest green holo with slight olive undertones. Again, no issues with application.

Then I used MoYou Fairytale Collection plate 05 to add a wheel pattern using both polishes again (the pattern is the back wheel of Cinderella's carriage). One coat of Rica Glossy Glam Topcoat finished this mani. I have to admit, Auld Lang Syne and Gizmo aren't really the best polishes for stamping, at least not over each other, as they're both a little thin for this use.

Colors By Llarowe are available exclusively at Llarowe.

Dollish Polish are available at their store, at Llarowe and at Overall Beauty. Auld Lang Syne is exclusive to the january "A Box, Indied". The box with five polishes is available at Llarowe as a one month only box or as subscription (50$ per box).

A Box, Indied - Fire In The Sky

Fire In The Sky by Freak Show Polish is the next polish out of the january "A Box, Indied".

I started with three thin coats of Catrice Bed Of Flowers (Eve In Bloom Limited Edition), an antique pink creme.

Then I added one coat of Fire In The Sky, a clear base filed with various sizes of small blue, purple pink, red, orange, gold, silver and iridescent hexes plus silver and iridescent bars.

I had no issues with application of Fire In The Sky and used one coat of Rica Glossy Glam topcoat for a smooth finish.

Freak Show Polish is available at their own store (US only) and at Big City Nails. Fire In The Sky is exclusive to the january "A Box, Indied". The box with five polishes is available at Llarowe as a one month only box or as subscription (50$ per box).
