Her Goose Got Cooked in the Afterglow

Stupid post title, isn't it? But thats how these two polishes are called, Cult Nails Afterglow and Crows Toes Her Goose Got Cooked.





I started with three coats of Cult Nails Afterglow "a copper infused with a subtle pink shimmer".

The pink shimmer may look pretty subtle on my pictures (you can see it best in the bottle shot), but in real life it's more like "Bam! In your face!", not so subtle at all. Afterglow is pretty sheer, that's why I used three coats.

On top of Afterglow I added one dabbed coat of Crows Toes Her Goose Got Cooked, a clear base with pink, orange and golden hex glitters, golden microglitters and golden holographic hexes. The formula is pretty thick, but that's totally normal with these dense glitter polishes.

I finished with one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food and one coat of Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer.

Winters

Winter is not only the current season, it's also the name of today's polish: Oopsie Daisies Winters.

The blue, green and purple glitters come in two sizes, plus blue microglitter. The white base is very sheer, I used four coats and it was still slightly translucent. If you want it completely opaque, I suggest to layer it over a white creme. I you prefer a semi-opaque look, two to three coats should be sufficient.

I had no issues applying the polish, no fishing for glitters needed. I finished with one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food and one coat of Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer.

A Christmas Crow Maxxed Out

Today I have two Crows Toes holiday polishes for you.





As base color I used A Christmas Crow, a black jelly base with red shimmer and small golden glitters. The golden glitters are duochrome, depending on the angle, they look green! The shimmer and glitter is so dense, the polish looks brown instead of black. The jelly base is very sheer, so I decided to layer two coats of A Christmas Crow over one coat of a black creme (Manhattan 1010N).





On my ring finger, I added one dabbed coat of Maxxed Out, a clear base with lots of different sized gold and holographic hex glitters (there are some bar glitters, too. Just not on my right hand). While some of the glitters look green, blue or purple on my pictures, they're not, it's just the amazing holographic effect. The glitter is extremely dense in this polish, one coat hides the base color almost completely.





I finished with one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food and one coat of Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer.

Glass Elevator

Today's indie is Smitten Polish's Glass Elevator. Noelie, the creator of Smitten Polish, describes it as "Several sizes and shapes of matte glitters in aqua and light blue suspended in a very, very pale aqua milky base" (Source: Smitten Polish Etsy shop).





To be honest, I think the base is white, I can't see any aqua. But the polish looks aqua nontheless, due to the pretty dense glitter.There are light blue and aqua medium sized hex glitter plus blue and green round microglitter. Alltogether it adds up to a gorgeous wintery polish with a jelly sandwich look.

As the base is pretty sheer, I used four coats of Glass Elevator with one coat of Essie Good to Go. I had no issues applying the polish, and it dried rather quickly.

Lady Of Shalott in Winter Wonderland

A wintery blue combo today.

For this mani I started with two coats of a England Lady of Shalott (Gothic Beauties Collection), "a captive and etherally beautiful sapphire heart, shrouded in a blackened curse".

In low light, Lady of Shalott looks almost completely black. But when the lights hit it, you can see the gorgeous sapphire blue shimmer. The formula on this one is great, not too thin, not too thick and if you use a thicker coat, it could be a one coater. I used two thin coats, out of habit.

On top of Lady of Shalott, I added one dabbed coat of GlimmerbyErica Winter Wonderland (Winter Collection), "a mix of different colored blue hexes, silver holographic micro glitter, iridescent square glitter and iridescent micro glitters, all in a clear base. It is what comes to my mind when I think about winter. Cold blues, icy crystals and glittering goodness! "

The larger periwinkle hexes showed some reflective curling (they look like they curl, but in fact they're lying flat), but that's the only "issue" I had with this polish. The glitters in Winter Wonderland are a little less dense than in the other GlimmerbyErica polishes I tried. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I really like Winter Wonderland the way it is.

I really loved this combo, but I figured this must look amazing mattified. So I added one coat of Essence Special Effects Matte Topper (I don't know if it's still available, I couldn't find it on their homepage) over the coat of Essie Good to Go I used. I think it turned out gorgeous.

Snowbird in Stormy Skies

Today I have a blue indie-combo to show you.





I started with three coats of Girly Bits Stormy Skies, a light blueish grey. Or is it a greyish blue? Or even a light muted teal? Whatever you want to call this color, it has a pretty strong shimmer, that was almost impossible to capture on the nails. It's more visible in the bottle shots.

Stormy Skies, once dried, has a gritty, almost sand like texture. You can see it pretty good on my pictures.

On top of Stormy Skies, I added one dabbed coat of Candeo Colors Snowbird (Winter 2012 Collection),  "a mixture of matte blue hex in various sizes with small holographic lime and small and medium gold holo hex in a clear base."

There are two versions of blue hex glitter in this one, small and medium "normal" blue hexes and larger matte hexes. 








I finished with one coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food and one coat of Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer.
