Blue Holo Tape Mani

Do you remember my green holo tape mani? I was so in love with this one, I decided to recreate it, but this time in blue.





As base color for the stripes I used Catrice Play It Blue (Candy Shock Limited Edition), a pale pastel blue. The formula was pretty horrific, thick, hard to handle and very sheer (picture shows three coats and still bald patches). I expected the formula to be bad, pastels usually are, but I didn't expect it to be that bad.





My "mosaic" polishes are (clockwise, starting at 12.00): Color Club Over The Moon (Halographic 2013 Collection), Hits Apolo (No Olimpo Collection), Hits Poseidon (No Olimpo), a England Tristam. I topped this mani with one coat of Sally Hansen Insta Dry.

Sadly, the sun didn't shine the whole three days I was wearing this mani, so I used the flash to show the holo effect.

You'll need nailpolish, striping tape and scissors. I'd recommend using basecoat and topcoat, too, but I forgot to add them on the picture. You can find striping tape on Ebay, I got mine at Born Pretty Store













First you polish your nail with your base color, that's the one the stripes will be. Let it dry thoroughly (this is important, the base color has to be absolutely dry).















Cut the striping tape in as many pieces as you need. For this mani I used three pieces per nail. Stick the tape on your nail where you want to have the lines between the polishes. Smooth it down. It has so stick on the nail pretty good, so no polish can get beneath it.















Then add the other polishes in the "mosaic pieces" you built with the tape. Take care you stay in the field you started. Of course you can use only one polish and use it on the whole nail. If this is your first tape mani I'd recommend it.















Remove the striping tape. Don't wait too long with removing it, the sooner you remove it, the more accurate your lines will be. I always remove the tape right after adding the polish and do each nail after the other. Add some topcoat to protect your mani ( and let it dry a little quicker).
